3 Proper Nouns Proper Nouns are the name of a special person, place, or thing. Proper nouns are capitalized. – Dallas – Officer Walker – New York Times

4 Plural and Singular Nouns

5 Plural Nouns A plural form of a noun names more than one. It usually ends with s or es.

6 Write P if the noun below is plural. Write S if the noun below is singular. Change the singular nouns to plural nouns. 1.houses 2.baby 3.church 4.tables 5.books 6.bus

7 Add es to make nouns plural that end with: s – buses x – taxes ch – benches sh – dishes

8 Plural rule for when a word ends in “y” lady If there is a consonant before the “y”, drop the y and add “ies”. – ladies – Fries – Puppies Monkey If there is a vowel before the “y”, just add “s”. monkeys, chimneys, keys

9 Some nouns that end in f or fe change to ves when made plural: calf – calves knife – knives

10 Some nouns that end in o change to es when made plural. Some change to s: kangaroo – kangaroos potato – potatoes

14 Concrete & Abstract Nouns Concrete Nouns: Can be perceived by at least one of the five senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste). EX: Chair, John Abstract Nouns: Cannot be perceived by any of the five senses. They are usually emotions, ideals, or concepts. EX: Freedom, love, sadness.

15 What is a concrete or abstract noun? Concrete Noun Names a thing that is tangible—5 senses they can be (seen, touched, heard, smelled, or tasted). Concrete nouns are either common or proper. Abstract Noun NAbstract Noun Names an idea, a condition, or a feeling. In other words, They Do Not uses your 5 senses. something that can not be eaten, seen, heard, or smelled.
