2 What we need from you  Any information regarding scholarships that you have received a letter about – bring in the letter we will photocopy it and announce the scholarship at the graduation

3 Grad list  When the Grad List goes up on Wednesday June 25 th at 1:00 pm make sure you check your name  Spelling, wrong last name, etc.  Come see us if you have questions

4 Student Legal Name for Your Diploma  No Nick Names  Remarriage  Name on Diploma must match the Birth Certificate or Legal Name change  If not, there is no Legal Proof that you Graduated from High School  If there was a change, bring Legal Proof!

5 Important Dates  June 23 – Grand March practice – ticket pick up  June 24 – Grand March, Prom and Safe Grad  June 25 - Grad list up  June 25 – Graduation practice  June 25 – Graduation Ecumenical Service  June 26 – Graduation

6 Scholarship Lists  General and Specific Scholarships  You have filled out a long sheet in your English Class  Any specific scholarships have been in the Bulletin

7 Scholarships/Bursary  Scholastic Awards – 70% and above are announced  Graduation Award – All Others  Student receives a letter not $$$ which must be verified by post secondary registrar & returned to BEC  $$$ will be sent to the postsecondary institution from the school directly

8 How scholarships are calculated  English 12  Global Studies 12  3 other grade 12 taken in the current year  5 other courses taken at the grade 11 or 12 level in any school year  One open course can be used all others must be academic

9 Open and Graduate courses  Phys Ed 10, 11, 12  Child Studies 11  Canadian Family 12  Data Processing 12  Communication Technology 11  Career Dev 10, 11  Community Based Learning10  Foods and Nutrition 10  Clothing and Textiles 10  Physically Active Living 11  Learning Strategies 10, 11, 12  English Communications 10, 11, 12  Math Foundations 10, 11, 12  Math Essentials 10, 11, 12  Human Biology 11  Math for the Workplace 12

11 Application Procedure  In grade 12 $5.00 will cover all the transcripts that you will need  After or before grade 12 they are $5.00 each  Read DEADLINES on all applications

12 Post Secondary Application Procedure  Most applications are available in the Guidance Office and/or online  Make sure to tell Bernadette where to send them  Final marks are in with your graduation folder and YOU send them

13  You are responsible for sending in your final transcript  You will receive 2 official transcripts with your graduation gowns on Tuesday June 26th  DO NOT OPEN THEM  Send them to the applicable university/college

14 Student Loans  / http://www.studentloans.ednet.ns.ca /http://www.studentloans.ednet.ns.ca /http://www.studentloans.ednet.ns.ca  1-800-565-8420 for any questions  Filling out this application allows you access to both the Canada and the Nova Scotia student loan programs

15 What you need to apply for Student Loans  Social Insurance Number  Information about the school program you will be attending  Including number of credits or class hours  You and your parents’/step-parents’ notice of assessment from your 2012 Income tax  Bank account in your own name

16  The advantage of this type of loan is that you pay nothing back until you are no longer a student.  If you are not eligible for this type of loan you may also apply for loans at your bank.  You will need your parents to co-sign this loan  You will make interest only payments while you are in school

17 Financial information @ CBU  John Mayich for scholarships and or student loan  John_Mayich@cbu.ca John_Mayich@cbu.ca  There will be student assistance sessions on May 28 or 29, 2013 at 7pm in the Marvin Harvey Building computer lab.  To book your spot, please contact jennifer_kelloway@cbu.ca or phone 902-563-1650.  Students and parents are asked to bring their Social Insurance Number and 2012 Canada Revenue Agency Income tax return to complete the application.
