Collect images of yourself or of people you admire. Draw (grid) onto a blank sheet of white construction paper or using the photocopy face as a base, glue the photocopy to a piece of construction paper. Divide the face into several big basic shapes. Using the gray scale provided create the six shades from black to white with the gray scale sheets provided. Collage must have six shades of value. You are trying to match the values of the image.

Use other material such as construction paper, newsprint, and magazine images. The pieces of paper are small (no bigger than your thumb) torn pieces of paper. Cover the face completely. If using original image as a base; leave part of the eyes exposed.

Look at your photo (squint to see values!) Match the values in the photo with the paper values. Tear pieces (no scissors!) of the paper and begin arranging them on the paper. Pieces will be glued down to drawing or photocopy. Torn edges will be visible. Gel medium will be used to coat the finished work.
