2. SmoothRough and TEXTURE is how something feels when we touch it. Let’s feel some objects and classify them according to their texture: rough rough or smooth smooth.

3. What can you see in this photograph from The Alhambra gardens? What looks rough? What looks smooth?

4. Now, open your books at page seven, please. And touch the photo, do you feel rough or smooth?

5. Artists create visual textures in their work using different lines. Look for zigzags and curved lines in the rough areas. Look at flat colour for the smooth areas like the sky or walls.

6. Look at the photograph on page eight. Compare the bridge and the river. Are they rough or smooth?

7. Now, we’re going to colour the photocopy. First, lightly sketch the outline of the bridge with pencil.

8. Now, use colours in one direction in the smooth areas (river). Use soft blurred lines Finally, add zigzags and curved lines to colour the rough areas (bridge and wood).
