Woodwind Family All members of the Woodwind family were once made of wood. Most Woodwind instruments use a wood reed on the mouthpiece. To make sound on a Woodwind instrument, you must blow into the mouthpiece.

Brass Family The Brass family has 4 members. To make sound on a Brass instrument, you must make a buzzing sound with your lips.

String Family The String family is the largest family in actual numbers. The string family has 5 members. To make sound on a String instrument, you must use a bow on the string, pluck or strum the strings.

Percussion Family The Percussion family has the biggest variety of instruments. Some Percussion instruments are pitched and some are unpitched. To make sound on a Percussion instrument, you must hit, strike, shake, or scrape the instrument.
