Captain Brian M. Barkow Biography
Captain Brian Barkow was appointed to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office in September of He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in August of In March of 2009, Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr., promoted him to the rank of Captain. Currently, Captain Barkow commands the Law Enforcement Analytics Division (L.E.A.D.), which provides tactical, operational, and strategic analysis for the agency. L.E.A.D., a highly innovative division, utilizes the nationally recognized COMPSTAT model in analyzing data, crime trends, and tracking resource and performance accountability in all Sheriff’s Office operations by utilizing state of the art business intelligence software. In March 2009, Captain Barkow was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division where he oversaw the operations of the General Investigations Unit, Special Investigations Unit, Background Investigations Unit, Drug Enforcement Unit, and all agency Task Force assignments. In 2004, Captain Barkow earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Captain Barkow is a 2008 graduate from the Future Milwaukee Leadership Training program at Marquette University. Captain Barkow is a recent graduate of the National Institute of Justice Law Enforcement Technology Institute. Captain Barkow serves on several committees in Milwaukee County that promote the technical advancement of the criminal justice system and is a current member of the Professional Crime Analysts committee at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee.
