PCE PARAMETERS Presented by: Randy Frommater NVS - Clin 2, Salt Lake City OIFO Slides by Joy Pasternock
13
PARAMETERS In the beginning, life was simple: NOW….. TIU parameters:
SUPPRESS DX/CPT ON ENTRY: FORCE RESPONSE TO EXPOSURES: ASK DX/CPT ON ALL OPT VISITS: Then ORWPCE parameters were added ORWPCE ASK ENCOUNTER UPDATE ORWPCE FORCE ENTRY NOW…..
14
ORWPCE ANYTIME ENCOUNTERS
ORWPCE ASK ENCOUNTER UPDATE ORWPCE DISABLE AUTO CHECKOUT ORWPCE DISABLE AUTO VISIT TYPE ORWPCE EXCLUDE IMMUNIZATIONS ORWPCE EXCLUDE EXAMS ORWPCE EXCLUDE HEALTH FACTORS ORWPCE EXCLUDE SKIN TESTS ORWPCE EXCLUDE PATIENT ED ORWPCE FORCE PCE ENTRY
15
ORWPCE ASK ENCOUNTER UPDATE
When signing a note, this parameter is used to determine if the user should be prompted to enter encounter information when signing the note, based on one of eight possible settings: Entity Levels: User, Location, Service, Division, System, Package Option: Parameter Edit
16
ORWPCE ASK ENCOUNTER UPDATE
0 Primary/Data Needed (Default Setting) - The user will be asked to enter encounter information if they are the primary encounter provider, and if data is needed for the encounter. 1 Primary/Outpatient - The user will be asked to enter encounter information if they are the primary encounter provider, and the service category is “A” (Ambulatory), “I” (In Hospital), or “T” (Telecommunications). 2 Primary Always - The user will be asked to enter encounter information on all encounters, if they are the primary encounter provider.
17
3 Data Needed - All users will be asked to enter encounter information if data is needed for the encounter. 4 Outpatient - All users will be asked to enter encounter information, if the service category is “A” (Ambulatory), “I” (In Hospital), or “T” (Telecommunications). 5 Always - All users will be asked to enter encounter information on all encounters. 6 Never – The user will never be asked to enter encounter information when signing the note. 7 Disable - The user will never be asked to enter encounter information when signing the note, and the encounter button will be disabled, even when a note is being edited.

Prompting for Encounters
WEB PAGE Prompting for Encounters Data Needed Search for ‘Prompting for Encounters’ & ‘Data Needed’. Unable to give exact page #s as the docs are updated as other functionality is released
21
ORWPCE FORCE PCE ENTRY Forces the PRIMARY ENCOUNTER PROVIDER to enter PCE data before being allowed to sign/complete a progress note. Overrides the parameter ORWPCE ASK ENCOUNTER UPDATE if you are the primary encounter provider If you are not the primary encounter provider – follows the settings in ORWPCE ASK ENCOUNTER UPDATE Entity Levels User, Location, Service, Division, System, Package Option: Parameter Edit “You must enter the encounter information before you can sign the note”, and given “OK” and “Cancel” buttons. Pressing the “Cancel” button will terminate the note signing process, resulting in an unsigned note (the user will be warned that the note was not signed). If this parameter is set to NO, the user will be asked if they want to enter encounter information, and will be given “Yes”, “No” and “Cancel” buttons. Again, pressing the “Cancel” button will terminate the note signing process, resulting in an unsigned note. Pressing the “No” button will allow the note to be signed. If ORWPCE FORCE PCE ENTRY is set to NO or null, then CPRS will check ORWPCE ASK ENCOUNTER UPDATE and use it’s value.
23
Visit Info Visit Info box added to reminder dialogs
Visit Info auto ask on finishing a reminder dialog This is not a parameter but it is new functionality that you should know about.
24
In case you already knew about this one, you might want to notice
25
ORWPCE Disable Auto Checkout
Disables the automatic checkout of encounters that do not have a diagnosis, procedure, or provider information. Entity Levels: User, Location, Service, Division, System Option: -Parameter Editor In v14, every encounter filed automatically checks out that encounter. In cases where, all an encounter entry or reminder dialog wanted to do was enter a health factor or education topic for an encounter, it was still checking out the encounter. Many sites had problems with this due to work flow (other sites like it this way). So, if this parameter is set, encounters will not automatically check out unless there is a diagnosis, procedure or visit type, and provider. This includes immunizations or other codes that map to CPT codes. A corresponding change (if the parameter is set) is that encounters without one of these codes can be entered without a provider.
26
ORWPCE Disable Auto Visit Type
This parameter prevents the automatic selection of a Type of Visit on the Visit Tab of the encounter form. When set to yes, this parameter prevents the automatic selection of the first Type of Visit defined for that encounter location. Prevents Billing problems at location where a mix of patients are seen. Only used with electronic encounter forms. Entity Levels: User, Location, Service,Division, System Option: Parameter Edit Normally, when first entering the Visit Type tab of the encounter form, the first Type of Visit defined for that encounter location is automatically selected. For some clinics that see a wide variety of different patient types, this behavior leads to user error where the wrong type of visit is selected. The ORWPCE DISABLE AUTO VISIT TYPE parameter can be set to force the selection of a Type of Visit before allowing selection of an E&M code.
27
ORWPCE Disable Auto Visit Type

ORWPCE Anytime Encounters
Allow updating/editing encounters for notes that have already been signed. Choosing a patient without pre-defined visit New Encounter Edit Note Encounter Selecting a patient with a pre-defined visit Edit Current Encounter Allows encounter entry on dictated progress notes, while not editing a note Entity Levels: User, Service, Division, System Option: Parameter Edit

31
ORWPCE Exclude… Option:
Some types of encounter data can be restricted from entry within the encounter form. This may be needed when specific encounter information should only be entered through reminder dialogs, and prevents entry through the encounter form. There are five parameters that allow specific encounter information to be excluded from the “Other” buttons on the encounter form tabs. ORWPCE Exclude Immunizations ORWPCE Exclude Skin Tests ORWPCE Exclude Patient Education ORWPCE Exclude Health Factors ORWPCE Exclude Exams Entity Levels: User, Location, Service, Division, System, Package Option: Parameter Edit Settings: Select Sequence, Exclusion item There are individuals parameters for the above 5 entries that allow for exclusion

ORQQPX DEFAULT LOCATIONS
Returns a list of default (preferences) outside locations for display in a reminder dialog, using the additional prompt PXRM OUTSIDE LOCATION. Enter a text default location, or a pointer to the INSTITUTION FILE (#4). Uses the internal entry in file 4. Entity Levels: User, Service, Division, System, Package Option: Parameter Edit Settings: Select Sequence, Enter free text entry, or the IEN in file 4.
39
ORQQPX REMINDER TEXT AT CURSOR
Allows text generated by a reminder dialog, when processing a reminder, to be inserted at the current cursor location instead of at the bottom of the note. Insert Reminder Dialog Generated Text at Cursor Location. Entity Levels: User, Service, Division, System Option: Parameter Edit
40
ORQQPX REMINDER TEXT AT CURSOR = NO
41
ORQQPX REMINDER TEXT AT CURSOR = YES

ORQQPX NEW REMINDER PARAMS
Indicates if the New Cover Sheet reminders should be used in place of ORRQPX SEARCH ITEMS The available reminders as well as the reminder drawer will no longer hold the reminders that were set in ORRQPX SEARCH ITEMS Uses ORQQPX COVER SHEET REMINDERS or ORQQPX COVER SHEET REM CLASSES which uses the GUI to set these 2 parameters. Entity Levels: User, Service, Division, System, Package Option: Parameter Edit (yes/no)
43
ORQQPX COVER SHEET REMINDERS
Intended for CACs, not users. CAC must have PXRM CPRS CONFIGURATION MENU in their menu pathway Settings done in the GUI and displayed in this parameter. Do NOT edit any settings in XPAR MENU TOOLS. Edit via the GUI EDIT COVER SHEET REMINDER LIST under Available Reminders. Cover Sheet Reminder Info: This parameter is cumulative, so sequence ranges should be assigned. Entity Levels: User, Location, Service, Division, System, Package Option: GUI EDIT COVER SHEET REMINDER LIST/PXRM CPRS CONFIGURATION MENU Values are in the form of FlagTypeIEN, where Flag indicates L:Lock, R:Remove or N:Normal, Type is a 'C' or 'R', indicating that # is the internal entry number of a Category or a Reminder.
44
ORQQPX COVER SHEET REM CLASSES
This parameter works in conjunction with the ORQQPX COVER SHEET REMINDERS parameter, acting as another level to the cumulative parameter of User Class, inserted between the User and Location Levels. Do NOT Edit the settings in XPAR MENU TOOLS. Do all editing via the GUI option EDIT COVER SHEET REMINDER LIST under AVAILABLE REMINDERS.

TIU FIELD EDITOR CLASS Determines who has the authority to edit Template Fields. Based on ASU user classes. Entity levels: User, Service,Division,System,Package Option CAC Parameter editor TIU FIELD EDITOR CLASS - The options menu of the notes, consults and Discharge Summary tabs contains one additional menu item, Edit Template Fields. This menu option is enabled based on the user classes entered in this parameter. This multi-valued parameter contains a list of ASU user classes and can be set at the User, Service, Division and System levels. Set at the usual 5 levels, user, service, division, system, package Establishes who can edit Template Fields. Based on ASU user class To edit Template Fields you go to the notes page,
52
TIU TEMPLATE PERSONAL OBJECTS
Establishes what TIU objects are allowed to be added to personal templates. No objects entered, then all objects are allowed. Entity Level Parameter is cumulative at all levels. Option CAC Parameter editor Users that are allowed to create personal templates have access to all active patient data objects. This parameter can be used to limit the patient data objects available in the template editor for users that cannot create shared templates. Only those objects specified in this parameter will appear in the Insert Patient data Objects dialog of the template editor. BLANK = all objects available Cumulative This parameter is cumulative at all levels. If no objects are entered in this parameter, all objects will be allowed.
55
TIU TEMPLATE REMINDER DIALOGS
Determines which Reminder Dialogs can be used as TIU Templates. Entity Level Parameter is cumulative at all levels. Option CAC Parameter editor Reminder dialogs can be linked to templates so that a reminder dialog can be selected from the templates drawer (Reminder specific text will not be inserted into the note when the finish button is pressed). This allows templates to create orders, enter encounter data, vitals and do everything else that a reminder dialog can do. When a template is defined as a reminder dialog type, a list of reminder dialogs contained in this parameter is then available in the template editor that can be linked to that reminder dialog.
58

After version 19 of the GUI is released, a new folder labeled Dept
After version 19 of the GUI is released, a new folder labeled Dept. of Defense will show up with the six RDV reports currently compatible. The reports were placed under their own folder because it was too difficult to expect users to remember which reports worked and which didn’t with DOD data. The only potential confusion might be in a user thinking that they can only get DOD data with these reports and will have to click on the other version found under Clinical Reports in order to get VA data. THIS IS NOT TRUE!. The reports under the Dept. of Defense folder will find both VA and DOD data.
