US response Stimson Doctrine- US denounced the attack, and would not recognize these territorial gains. D. Stimson Doctrine had no effect and Japan set up a Puppet State. E. Japan then left the League of Nations and built up their navy.

Manchurian Incident September 18, 1931, Manchurian Incident, occurred in southern Manchuria when a section of railroad, owned by Japan's South Manchuria Railway, near Mukden (today's Shenyang) was dynamited by Japanese junior officers. Imperial Japan's military accused Chinese dissidents of the act, thus providing a excuse for the Japanese occupation of Manchuria
