What to Look For in a Long Term Care Facility Always visit the facility before admission Interview staff Talk to residents and families who live there Contact your local Ombudsman Program Check annual surveys and Medicare.gov Make basic observations  Is there any odor?  Are the residents clean?  Is the facility clean?  Are residents engaged in activities?  Are residents restrained or sedated?  Are call lights unanswered?  Can you observe adequate staff?  Does the physical environment look safe?
