On Windows XP Desktop Follow these steps Click “Start” button Click “All Programs” Click “Accessories” Click “System Tools” Click “Disk Defragmenter”

Your screen should look something like this:

Now to start the process One click on “Disk Defragmenter” Disk Defragmenter

Steps to follow on next window Choose disk to defragment, (upper pane) Click on “Analyze” button, (lower left) When the “analysis” is finished Click on “Defragmentation” button, (lower left) Now wait

The “Defrag Window” If more than 1 hard drive, you must select which to defrag 1- 2- Click On Analyze 3- Click on Defragment

Defrag in progress Observe progress bars below; files are shifted as fragmented files become contiguous files

Patience, patience. After analysis you may get a window telling you defrag not necessary; up to you Size of hard drive, time between defrags and amount of “stuff” on it determines how long it takes Status bar on bottom of screen records % of progress
