West African Ghanaians offered these items for trade/sale: Ivory – pure tusks of African elephants or carved ivory for jewelry or keepsakes. Ebony – the dense hard wood of a deep rich black color with occasional grey streaks

West African Ghanaians offered these items for trade/sale: Kente cloth – colorful woven cloth with basket-like designs. Artwork – jewelry and carvings by local artists.

West African Ghanaians offered these items for trade/sale: Exotic feathers – to be used for clothing, jewelry, fans, and quill pens. Animal skins – for clothing, blankets, and decorative rugs.

West African Ghanaians offered these items for trade/sale: Baskets – hand woven with intricate designs by local weavers. Gourds – locally grown and carved to be containers, artwork, or drums.

North African Arabs brought these ideas with them to West Africa: Islam – a belief in one God, Allah, and that Muhammad was his last prophet. Arabic – both the oral language and the writing system.
