Zero conditional USE: when we talk about scientific fact or general truth FORM: IF (WHEN) + PRESENT SIMPLE (If-clause) PRESENT SIMPLE (main clause) e.g. If (When) you mix yellow paint and blue paint, you get green paint. e.g. My class teacher gets angry if (when) I play truant.

First conditional USE: to express a real or very possible situation in the future or present FORM: IF+ PRESENT FORM ( if-clause) WILL/MODAL/IMPERATIVE (main clause) e.g. If we don´t leave now, we won´t get there in time.

27. června 20124 Second conditional USE: when we talk about imaginary or hypothetical situations in the present or future FORM: IF + PAST TENSE (IF- CLAUSE) WOULD/COULD/MIGHT e.g. If I became a famous actress, I would move to Hollywood.

27. června 20125 Third conditional USE: when we talk about imaginary or hypothetical situations in the past FORM: IF + PAST PERFECT (If- clause) WOULD/MIGHT/COULD + HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE e.g. If I had known about yesterday´s party, I would have come.

27. června 20126 WISH - CLAUSES WISH + PAST TENSE (present or future reference) e.g. I have to go to work now. I wish I didn´t have to. e.g. It´s cold and overcast. I wish the sun was shining. instead of WISH we can use IF ONLY e.g. If only I could go on holiday with you.

WISH/IF ONLY + WOULD when you want to change the situation or someone´s behaviour because it´s annoying, you would like somebody to do something or you would like something to happen. e.g. It´s still snowing. I wish/if only it would stop. e.g. I wish/if only you wouldn´t treat her like this.

WISH/IF ONLY + PAST PERFECT ( past reference) e.g. I wish /If only I had met you earlier. (= butI didn´t meet you.)
