6 Project Objective The new document which will be titled Manual for Streets II – Wider Application of the Principles will take the philosophies set out in Manual for Streets and demonstrate through guidance and case studies how they can be extended beyond residential streets to encompass both urban and rural situations

7 MfS Principles MfS aims to assist in the creation of streets that: help to build and strengthen the communities they serve; meet the needs of all users, by embodying the principles of inclusive design; form part of a well-connected network; are attractive and have their own distinctive identity; are cost-effective to construct and maintain; and are safe.

8 The work has been awarded to WSP Development and Transportation. Alan Young will head up a formidable team of experts drawn from both highway and urban design specialism’s. The development of the document has been endorsed by DfT, CABE, CSS & HCA.
