Facts About Driving Under the Influence
Every day, between 30 and 40 people in the United States die in car accidents due to drunk driving. Alcohol-related deaths in 2008 are reported to have comprised as much as 35% of all traffic-related deaths in America.

Facts Cont. Drivers with high blood alcohol content or concentration (BAC) are at increased risk of car accidents, highway injuries and vehicular deaths. High BAC drivers tend to be male, aged 25-35, and have a history of DWI convictions and drug abuse

Teens and Alcohol Young drivers are less likely than adults to drive after drinking alcohol, but their crash risk is substantially higher when they do. Young DWI offenders risk losing their academic eligibility.

Effects of Drinking Increases the risk of a number of diseases: fatty degeneration of the liver, and many more. 40% of all incidents involving aggression occur while under the influence of alcohol

Legal Repercussions Driver’s license may be suspended or revoked for anywhere from a week to years. Vehicle sanctions may require the offender’s car to include a specially marked license plate or even an interlock device that prevents the car from starting unless the driver passes a breath-scan test.

My Family and Alcohol My Uncle killed a new mother while intoxicated when he was 18. He refused to get his license for 10 years after the accident.

Alcoholism in my Family
My Aunt was in over six car crashes due to driving while under the influence. Because of these incidents, she was left without insurance, a license a home and had her children taken from her. Drinking eventually took her life. My Grandmother died at age 63 from a heart attack due to years of alcohol and drug abuse.

How Alcohol Has Effected Me
My aunt died at the age of 46 from psoriasis of the liver. Her medical bills cost my family thousands of dollars and my tuition. I spent the summer of my Sophomore year of high school taking care of her.

Unseen Victims of Drinking
My aunt left three children motherless. She caused multiple wrecks and injured several families. My mother paid for all her medial bills and funeral expense but this cannot replace her sister.

Alcohol Endangers Families
My grandmother and aunt have been in several drunk driving accidents together leaving there kids and family behind while they continued to drink their lives away. On one occasion, my aunt was found passed out beside her car with keys in her hands. She had alcohol poisoning and had to be rushed to the hospital.

Drunk drivers affect… Drunk driving not only affects you but your family, friends and the family and friends of the ones whose lives you may be endangering.
