Chesterfield College Supporting young people on a positive Careers journey How? Clear lack of good careers guidance. Chesterfield addressed the issue. Overhaul for Careers Advice that included a careers diagnostic interview with every applicant. Allow students to explore career paths. The creation of a ‘Right choice review’ after 6 weeks of entering college.

Survey completed – 1,600 students. – 95% of students agreed “the process helped them explore career options”. – 92% of students agreed the process “gave them a better idea of what to study and how the course linked to local job opportunities.” A decrease in drop out rates. Career Coach is a key part of the recruitment and tutorial process.

Develop an approach to improve the employability of students and provide local employers with the skills they really need.

Lakes College Helping Learners find the right path How? All advisers were equipped with iPads and had access to Career Coach. ‘On the fly’ information advice and guidance, and in particular the solid link between courses and careers. This gave staff the ability to quickly and easily show local earnings trends and LMI data in a visually-engaging manner, which allowed the young people to understand their options and the potential impact of furthering their studies.

Lakes College Helping Learners find the right path Results? The immediate feedback from the unemployed young people in attendance was extremely positive, in particular the link between courses and careers. The day resulted in a record number of applications to the College for an event of this type.
