Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory CSTL Mission As the Nation’s Reference Laboratory, CSTL’s Mission is to provide the chemical measurement infrastructure to: enhance U.S. industry's productivity and competitiveness; assure equity in trade; and improve public health, safety, and environmental quality. CSTL Vision A world class research laboratory recognized by the Nation as the primary resource for chemical, biomolecular, and chemical engineering measurements, data, models, and reference standards required to enhance U.S. industrial competitiveness in the world market.

Chemical Science and Technology Laboratory Intensity Standards for Raman Spectroscopy : Objective: Provide (first-ever) standard for intensity and frequency shift of Raman signals Customers: Instrument mfrs., chemical processing, DoD, DoE, pharmaceutical Industry Form: Uranyl Silicate Glass standard cuvette geometry Status: Evaluated prototype standard with ASTM Committee First SRM (785 nm) by 9/2002 Next Steps: Develop additional SRMs (488, 514.5, 533, 633, 1064 nm) nm 500525550575600625 Broadband fluorescence from uranyl silicate glass Impacts: These standards will transform Raman from qualitative lab diagnostic into process instrumentation, allowing quantitative comparison of instrument response in differing locations and installations
