2 The Easter Story By Ed Fenner

3 Jesus travelled to Jerusalem for the last time to attend the Jewish festival of Passover. When he arrived, the road was crowded with people waving palm branches. They laid their cloaks on the ground so that Jesus could ride over them on his donkey like a king in praise for all the wonderful things he had done. 7 At the Passover Feast that evening, Jesus gathered his disciples together. “This will be the last supper I share with you before 1 suffer”, he said. He took the bread and gave them all some, saying “This is my body given for you, do this in memory of me”. Then he gave them all some wine, and said “This is my blood, which is poured out for you. Drink it in memory of me.” They didn't know what Jesus meant, so before they left the table Jesus said in explanation, “One of you is going to betray me tonight!” Scene 3Jesus And The 12 Disciples Now draw a picture of the scene. 8 Jesus went away to the Mount of Olives to pray. When he returned, the Disciples were asleep. As he woke them up, Judas, one of the disciples came into the room with a crowd of Roman soldiers, carrying swords and clubs. Jesus said, “Judas, are you going to betray me?” Judas let the soldiers take Jesus away. Scene 4Jesus And Judas Why do you think Judas betrayed Jesus? Now click the mouse

10 The soldiers took Jesus to Pilate, who was the Roman governor. Pilate could find nothing Jesus had done wrong, so he sent him to King Herod. Herod couldn't find anything to charge Jesus with either, so he sent him back to Pilate. Pilate wanted to punish Jesus and let him go, but the crowd and the Jewish leaders said, “Crucify him!” Pilate knew Jesus was innocent, but everybody wanted him killed - what could he do? He sentenced Jesus to be crucified. Scene 5Jesus And Pilate What does “Crucify” mean? (Use your dictionary to help) Now click the mouse

16 Two of Jesus' friends had asked permission to be able to bury Jesus properly. They took his body to a beautiful garden and placed it in a tomb cut into the rocky hillside. They prayed and rolled a huge stone in front of the entrance to the tomb before they left. Scene 8Jesus Is buried What is a tomb? Discuss this amongst yourselves. (Use your dictionaries if required) Now click the mouse

17 Three days after Jesus died, one of Jesus' friends, Mary, visited the tomb. When she looked inside, she was shocked to see that the tomb was empty. Had someone stolen the body? But then she heard a voice saying. “Go and tell my friends I am alive and will see them soon in Galilee”. It was Jesus! 18 The disciples could not believe what they had been told about Jesus, even when they remembered that according to their holy writings, the chosen king would die and rise again. But then Jesus appeared in the room with them. "I am no ghost!" he said. "Touch me. You can't touch a ghost!“ The disciples believed him at last. Jesus told them that they must wait until God sent them the Holy Spirit in his place, and go out into the world and make disciples of all the people.
