Background Introduction ● What is Delphi automotive? ● Three goals of the Delphi company ● Delphi’s impact on your vehicle ● Impact of manufacturing ● Conclusion ● Group invention
3
Why Do This Project ● How can we expand on Delphi goals? ● Choose a category ● Create an idea and expand ● The hydraulic bumper
4
Mission Statement Our mission in this project is to improve the safety designs included in Delphi’s car design. We plan to do this by designing a type of external bumper that expands like an airbag in the case of the car being hit from behind in a collision.
5
Customer Needs Collection & Ranking We developed five first layer attributes that we felt were important to include for our customers ● Improve Safety ● Efficient ● Sturdy ● Aesthetically Pleasing ● Unobtrusive
6
Customer Needs Collection & Ranking Improve Safety ● Deploys only when hit by a car (not a human or a toy) ● Deploys when hit from behind ● Linked to go off when the airbags deploy ● Does not misfire
7
Customer Needs Collection & Ranking Efficient ● Prevents Injury ● Reacts Quickly ● Linked to Airbags ● Extends by one foot
8
Customer Needs Collection & Ranking Sturdy ● Can withstand High Speed Collisions ● High Quality Hydraulics ● Made of Steel or Plastic
9
Customer Needs Collection & Ranking Aesthetically Pleasing ● Sleek ● Aerodynamic ● Looks like a real bumper ● Matches car exterior
10
Customer Needs Collection & Ranking Unobtrusive ● Only deploys when needed ● Fits to the design of the car ● Compact ● Inconspicuous
11
Concepts Generation based on Customer Needs Through concept generation, we came up with a design that best satisfies all of our customer’s needs. We decided to develop a bumper using hydraulics with rounded edges, made out of steel and set to deploy when the airbags go off.

Concept Generation/Selection
13
Prototype and Testing ● Bumper extends to increase “collision zone”. ● Shoots out by using hydraulic system ● Triggered by airbags ● Infrared sensor on the back calculates cars coming too fast from the rear and also triggers bumper

Difficulties in this Project 1.Lack of knowledge 2.Lack of data 3.Group efficiency 4.Lack of Communication The Real Jacob Barrientos

Conclusion ● Our product would meet needs of Delphi customers in the safety department. o Safety Keeping Whiplash from happening since 2014
