picturehistory.com Mrs. Battaglia, Tessie (age twelve), and Tony (age seven) lived at 170 Mulberry Street on the fifth floor of the rear house. Mr. Battaglia was crippled by a fall and could earn very little. Mrs. Battaglia worked in a shop every day except Saturdays, when the children worked with her at home. They received two or three cents a pair for finishing men's pants and said they earned $1.00 to $1.50 on Saturday.
