Views not a lot different to a darkish site at home due to hotel lights etc, even form the vacant land next to a darkish (but rocky!) car park close to our hotel. The tour was worthwhile, but the *30 minutes allotted for observing was nowhere near long enough to do justice to the location! However a visit to the Tiede observatory may well be worthwhile as apparently they have a 250mm (10”) Dobsonian and a 500mm (20”) scope that can be used, but you aren’t allowed to use your own equipment (see their website for details)! What you will need is a letter of confirmation from our President (I presume that’ll be you Andy?!) that you are a bone fide member of an astronomical society or group. I didn’t find this out until too late (my own fault!), but if anyone goes to the observatory, please let us all know how you got on. 8 To sum up
