2 What is Interact? Interact is an arm of Rotary open to children aged 11 – 18. It is a vibrant movement of 200,000 members in more than 10,000 clubs in 109 countries.

4 The Goal of Interact The goal of Interact is to encourage and foster the advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of youth united in the ideal of service

5 Benefits of Interact Enhance leadership and teamworking skills Develop confidence and thinking skills Serve the community Expand international understanding Build camaraderie Provide invaluable experiences Students with Interact experience can use the Service contact hours for University entrance Interactors will be an excellent source of future quality Rotary members – the future is in their hands

6 The Interact 7030 target To realise the goal of having at least one Interact club sponsored by each Rotary club in the district. There are 69 Rotary clubs in district 7030. There are 41 Interact clubs in the district sponsored by 35 Rotary clubs.

9 The famous US civil rights activist, Martin Luther King Jr. stated “Life's most urgent question is: What are you doing for others?”

10 Mahatma Gandhi, liberator of nations, champion of the downtrodden, said “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”

11 President John F Kennedy in January 1961 at his inauguration challenged the world, “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country”

12 Mother Teresa, helper of millions around the world, that tiny, giant of a woman said “Love cannot remain by itself -- it has no meaning. Love has to be put into action, and that action is service”.

21 Getting started – It’s easy as 1,2,3….. 1.New Generations officer oversees Interact business 2.Identify a community or school that your club can sponsor as an Interact club 3.Make “Welcome to Interact” presentation to potential Interact club’s principal, interested teachers and students. 4.At the presentation obtain interested students contact nos, email addresses etc. Minimum of 15 members required. 5.The school assigns an Interact rep, a teacher, who will liaise with the Sponsor Club – New Generations Officer 6.The club has elections, appointing a club executive 7.Registration document to be submitted to RI. DG approval is required. 8.Students meet, identify/deliver projects, raise funds, set up Facebook page, etc

22 2011-12 Changemaker Award for Interact Clubs Interact clubs are asked to complete the Changemaker Award form to assess the impact they have made this year. Clubs that accomplish at least 5 of the 10 activity options between 1 July 2011 and 1 March 2012 will qualify for the 2011-12 Changemaker Award. Once completed, the form is to be reviewed and signed by the sponsor Rotary club president to certify the Interact club’s achievement, then sent to the district governor no later than 15 March 2012. District governor will report the names of the qualifying Interact clubs no later than 22 March 2012.

23 ACTIVITY OPTIONS (accomplish at least 5 of 10) Meet at least twice each month. Ensure that each member of the club is assigned a specific role, either in a leadership position or as a member of a committee or project initiative. Participate in at least one local project that serves the school or community. Carry out an environmental service project. Participate in at least one activity that promotes international understanding. Participate in a “Million Smiles A Day” campaign.* Participate in a fundraiser to support polio eradication or one of Rotary’s six areas of focus. Use social networking to increase awareness of Rotary among young adults in the community. Participate in professional development activities that enhance club members’ ability to compete in the job market. Conduct an activity to promote The Four-Way Test, such as an essay competition or a discussion forum on ethics.
