SAR RESPONSIBILITIES The U.S. SAR system is prescribed by the National Search and Rescue Plan (NSP) NSP establishes geographic areas and regions of SAR coordination responsibility each with its own SAR coordinator and SAR plan The NSP designates CDRPACOM as the SAR coordinator for the State of Alaska (Aeronautical SAR events) Delegated responsibility for SAR in Alaska: CDRPACOM ► COMPACAF ► 11 AF COMMANDER The task of organizing and executing SAR operations for the 11 AF/CC is delegated to the 611 Air Operations Center Commander and finally to the 11 th RCC State organizations may wish to retain established SAR responsibilities within their boundaries for ground SAR incidents primarily local or intrastate in character (AK Statutes)

11AF RCC MISSION 11AF RCC = Alaska Rescue Coordination Center AKRCC is the executive agent for the 11 AF Commander to plan, coordinate, and control DOD participation in military and civilian SAR operations. Tracks all 406 / 121.5 / 243.0 MHz Distress Beacons, aircraft ELT (Emergency Locator Transmitters – ELT) As of Feb 2009 Satellites will only process 406 MHz signals Primary agency responsible for military and aviation SAR in Alaska Coordinates with other AK SAR nodes – single point of coordination for DoD support to civil SAR in AK
