Who? Eli Whitney When? 1793 Why? Wanted to make work easier for slaves and it sped up the process of cleaning cotton. Where? South Effects? Vast movement Westward Cotton exports increased Native Americans forced off of Southern Land. Large work force required – slavery increased

Born free or bought freedom Problems: weren't allowed to vote or get an education, faced prejudice, being captured & sold into slavery
