2
Physical Characteristics The mountain goat can be up to 5.5 feet long. The mountain goat can weigh up to 300 pounds. The mountain goat has white fur.
3
Lifespan The lifespan of the mountain goat is twelve to fifteen years.
4
Eating Habits/Diet Mountain goats are herbivores (plant eaters). Mountain goats eat grasses, ferns, sedges, mosses, herbs, lichens, and shrubs.
5
Population There are only 100,000 mountain goats left in North America.
6
Habitat/Range Mountain goats live in the Rocky Mountain areas and in coastal areas, including Alaska.
7
Adaptations Mountain goats have horns that help them defend themselves. Mountain goats have rubber on their hooves that protect their hooves. Mountain goats’ fur protects them from harsh weather.
8
Endangered Because Mountain goats are endangered because avalanches, rockslides, and landslides crush them. Predators, like mountain lions, eat them. Lastly, humans hunt them.
9
Fun Fact If you were to look at a mountain goat’s horns, then you would see rings on the horns. If it isn’t 22 months or younger, then count the rings. However many rings are on the horns tells how old it is.
