AXIS Camera Station – product goal
Why did we develop this product? To provide the market with a generic surveillance software for video recording, monitoring and event handling specially designed for Axis network video products Filling a gap in our current software offerings Since the functionality of the software that our partners provide has evolved to become highly advanced and specialized, we have seen a clear customer need for a general recording and video management application. The previously released AXIS Camera Recorder has fulfilled this need for the mid section of the entry-level up to the lower parts of the pro-level markets. However, for the mid section of the pro-level market there is a global need for an additional surveillance solution from Axis, addressing some of the limitations in the current AXIS Camera Recorder. The current AXIS Camera Recorder is targeted at event driven surveillance, where recording is done when an event or motion is detected. The AXIS Camera Recorder is less suitable for installations where continuous recording is needed due to limitations in the size of the image database.

AXIS Camera Station – product positioning
Partner Solutions High-End Entry level Upper Pro-level Lower Pro-level Milestone XProtect AXIS Camera Station AXIS Camera Recorder AXIS Camera Station is a complementary product for Axis network cameras and video servers. By offering this component of an upper entry-level to mid/upper pro-level surveillance system, Axis will simplify the solution availability, installation and usage of a true IP-based video monitoring system for many of our current and potential customers. The current AXIS Camera Recorder and the new AXIS Camera Station will only have limited effect on our partners today as the solution from Axis target the general market, while the partner solutions mainly target local or specific needs not supported by the Axis offerings. Sales may very well occur also in other segments, but product design and marketing efforts are based on this product positioning. ACE

AXIS Camera Station – target market
Key channels Primary channel IT-channel including BBDs, catalogs and IT-networks integrators Secondary channel Value Added Distributors System Integrators Key markets Low to mid end security and surveillance installations Particular suitable for Retail, Education and Transportation segments AXIS Camera Station will be available through all Axis distribution channels. The primary target is though the IT-channel including BBDs, catalogs and IT-network integrators. Axis solution providers and system integrators focusing on the security or production monitoring industry will also offer the product. AXIS Camera Station will be available on all markets where Axis network cameras and video servers are sold. The product is targeted to be used from the upper part of the entry-level to the mid/upper parts in the pro-level segment as a generic surveillance solution, in any of our vertical markets and in particular for Retail, Education and Transportation. The first release will be in English. It is the intention to offer support for major languages such as German, Italian, French, Spanish, and Portuguese later on.

AXIS Camera Station – target customer
Business customer With IT know how With a need for local video surveillance and recording of video Upgrade his analogue system Corporations with a multitude of local operations without the need for central management but with an interest to standardize on one solution, available on a global level. Owner of Axis network video products New customers of Axis network cameras & video servers The target buyer would be a business customer needing a pro-level surveillance system or who would like to upgrade his existing analog system with an IP based. He has IT know-how and a need for video surveillance with video recording functionality. He would be relying on the IT-manager and Building manager in his buying process. The typical buyer would be the person responsible for company security. As the system is targeted towards the pro-level segment there will probably not be a dedicated person monitoring the cameras at all times. It is more likely that the system will be working in the background and the images will be viewed live randomly or when looking for specific events. The person viewing will typically be an office clerk, receptionist etc., and the person checking the recorded material will be a person responsible for the building/facility security, or the shop owner. The user does not necessarily set up the system; he would rely on the IT manager or building/security manager for this.

AXIS Camera Station - key benefits
24/7 recordings Maximum protection Event driven recording based on motion or external I/O Minimize storage needs and eliminates unnecessary recordings Video motion detection in the network camera Conserves bandwidth and keeps down costs Remote viewing and playback via Web browser or Windows client No need to be close to the PC actually performing the recordings Some of the key user benefits provided by the AXIS Camera Station are; Continuous recordings for 24/7 applications, for maximum protection Event driven recording based on motion or external I/O minimize storage needs and eliminates unnecessary recordings Support for video motion detection in the network camera conserves bandwidth and keeps down costs Recordings can be stored for a long time, only limited by regulations or hardware, for retrieval weeks later when needs may arise User specific access to cameras and recordings Remote viewing and playback via Web browser or Windows client without the need to be close to the PC actually performing the recordings. PC client can also perform administration. Recorded material can easily be retrieved for immediate control or action, without preventing new events from being recorded concurrently Recordings can be transferred at user-defined intervals to offsite storage, for safe backup Fully integrated duplex audio support enables real time direct sound and voice communications with the camera location Fully integrated network support for Pan, Tilt and Zoom cameras simplifies operation and saves cost by eliminating the need for separate joystick hardware or wiring

AXIS Camera Station - key benefits
Benefits when compared to analogue systems Quality of recordings Fast retrieval of recordings Ability to easily duplicate and distribute video Ease of maintenance – No changing of tapes Pre/post alarm recording AXIS Camera Station provides several key features over traditional analog and DVR based systems, such as; Quality of recorded material, which is maintained during distribution and copying Fast retrieval of recorded material, no need to rewind/forward tapes to selected time/date Provide pre-alarm, i.e. the ability to view important video prior to an alarm without the need for permanent recording. As Networked Video Systems utilizes standard Ethernet networks, cabling is in most places already available. If not, cost for installing a new network is not higher than for an analogue network, but can be utilized for other systems as well. A networked system will not have the same design ladders as an “black-boxed” styled analogue or DVR based systems have. This makes the solution more scalable and easier to grow.

Our offerings – what’s the difference
Axis Camera Explorer Axis Camera Recorder AXIS Camera Station Milestone Xprotect Number of cameras ‘Unlimited’ 16 10 up to 25 4,9,16,25,50,64 Remote access through web interface No Yes Image database size 160GB *1 Unlimited Unlimited *2 Motion detection Supports Axis motion detection in camera Audio support Recording modes Manual Manual, Scheduled, VMD & I/O Scheduled, VMD & I/O Archiving Multi-lingual Some User controlled access per camera Playback No (view file by file) Single channel playback Multi channel playback On the this slide, we will briefly compare the offerings we have in Axis today, Axis Camera Explorer, Axis Camera Recorder, Axis Camera Station and Milestone Xprotect Business. Notes: It should be notices that these offerings are addressing different customers and usage, so a lack of a feature in one product may not necessarily be a negative thing. ”No of cameras in system” refers to the total number of cameras that can be defined in the application and selected for viewing/recording. PTZ control (click in image) works in any frame, hotspot or not. Milestone Xprotect: Max numbers of cameras recorded is based on what version the application have. 64 is the maximum number supported by the largest version of the application. Milestone Xprotect can store images per day per camera. For a 24/7 recordings this gives a maximum frame rate of 7 fps. AXIS Camera Recorder has a limitation of frames/images per camera or 40GB per camera and 160GB in total frames corresponds to 7 fps for 24 hours or 1 fps for one week. ’Supports Axis motion detection in camera’ means that the software receives images from the camera only when the the camera detects motion detection with its built-in logic. The reduces the network load. Remote access refers to the ability to remotely, from a different PC, connect to the application PC and access features in this application. Also Password protection and watermarking with AXIS Camera Station *1 40GB / images per camera * images per camera per day
