Mobile App = Top 5 Student Requests through Support “I would love to see an app from you guys. I need to connect to the internet to view the lecture. For me, it is not possible to get internet connectivity when I want to view the video lectures. Can it be possible that you provide an app where I can download the video lectures or the course content for offline use later?”” ~ Student from India “…if you could provide an app for mobile devices would be greatest!, I think that the app could have a better behavior in 3G environments. Rises to 45-65% among ethnic minorities or those with less education / income. (Pew research) Overall: 77% of all mobile Google searches take place at home or work where PC access is available. Updated Workflow (Charter Members steps) 1.Create YouTube channel (through YouTube CMS) 1.Submit finished video file to upload page 1.Take edX ID and post to Video unit (“Advanced” tab) edX transcodes Video and pushes to YouTube and S3 Copy edX ID Paste edX ID into studio video unit Upload finished video file to edX in Studio

Here is a screenshot of where you would find this field using the ADVANCED tab. Paste the edX ID into its designated field and click the “Save” button. That’s it. You’re done. Workflow Step 4:

Next Steps 1.Collaboration: We will be working with you to get all aspects in place in order to utilize these new edX services. 2.Your PM will be reaching out to you for discussing YouTube CMS setup, if you do not already have one. 1.Timeline: - Targeted roll out with a focus on courses that are open and running between Dec. 5, 2014 – Jan. 15, 2015. - Archived courses. Collecting assets via FTP to make reruns mobile-ready.

Course team workflow to support mobile Q2 EdX will provide infrastructure for seamless transcoding and delivery of videos This includes videos for both web (YouTube) and mobile Capabilities will include: Ability for course teams to bulk upload source videos to edX Automatic transcoding of videos into multiple profiles fit for web and mobile Automatic upload of transcoded videos into various endpoints Asset tracking system to help course authors place transcoded videos Simplified video component configuration in Studio Ability to tag course as “Ready for Mobile” Video Encoding 1 edX ID
