Mobile Interference Hunting System
Anritsu mobile interference hunting system is designed to automatically identify and locate sources of interference Maps provided on tablet/laptop provide directions to locate interference sources
3
Mobile Interference Hunting System
Basic configuration for the Anritsu interference hunting system: MX280007A InterferenceHunterTM Software Anritsu handheld spectrum analyzer Off-the-shelf omnidirectional magnet mount RF antenna with GPS (or use separate GPS antenna) Windows Tablet (recommended) or PC with Windows 7 or 8 operating system running the MX280007A software Antenna R Anritsu Handheld Spectrum Analyzer Windows Tablet with Mounting Hardware

5
Mobile Interference Hunting System
Wide frequency range (9 kHz to 43 GHz possible) with appropriate Anritsu handheld spectrum analyzer and antenna Compatible with most existing Anritsu HH spectrum analyzers - (no firmware updates needed, GPS required)

Mobile Interference Hunting System
Type of Interferers Found Low power Narrowband, wideband Modulated Pulsed signals (similar to radar) Signals hidden in LTE uplink channels “Black” TV/radio stations & BTS cellular equipment operating illegally Channel Power Measurements Used Track signals drifting in frequency Track both wideband and narrowband interference Spectrum Analyzer in Channel Power Mode

Mobile Interference Hunting System Maps
MX280007A works with both GoogleMapsTM and OpenStreetMapTM GoogleMaps requires an internet connection (a USB modem is typically used) Care must be taken so modem frequencies do not interfere with signals being hunted OpenStreetMap is downloaded to tablet/PC hard disk and imported into the interference hunting program Maps/Instructions for OpenStreetMap can be found here: Both mapping systems are open source and free of charge !
9
Special Features & Capabilities
Interference within LTE uplink bands difficult to hunt Traffic information often masks presence of interference Anritsu ‘Min Hold’ setting eliminates LTE traffics signals from measurement consideration Comparison of LTE Uplink Band screenshots taken before and after MIN HOLD applied n Interferer obscured by LTE traffic on left can clearly be seen on screen on right
10
Other Features & Innovations
Multi-emitter mode of operation, ideal for finding multiple leakage sources such as cable TV Extensive on-site Help Menu Zoom In/Out controls provided Full-Screen Spectrum View on tablet Visual indicators show power levels along drive path Ability to capture and store interference hunt log files for later playback and analysis Squelch Control to optimize hunting for low-level signals Voice Prompts – enables one-person operation !
11
Finding CATV Interference
CATV Leakage tends to occur at multiple locations in a neighborhood. Select ‘Multiple Emitter’ from ‘Mode’ tab. Enter Threshold level. Drive along various streets in the neighborhood. Multiple locations will be identified on map indicating positions of interference sources. Sample CATV Spectrum
12
Drive in area of interest.
Spectrum Clearing Identify areas where signals may exceed a user settable threshold Select ‘Spectrum Clearing’ from ‘Mode’ tab. Enter Threshold level. Drive in area of interest. Multiple locations will be identified on map showing threshold exceptions.
13
‘Burst Mode’ Available for Receiver-like Speeds
To find extremely fast signal pulses, Anritsu has developed “Burst Detect” Uses FFT technology to capture and process intermittent signals Capable of 20,000 measurement per second, 15 MHz bandwidth… Entire span captured simultaneously Available on MS2720T Spectrum MasterTM, the MT8220T BTS MasterTM, and the MS203xC VNA MasterTM

Key Differentiators Frequency Range Value High Sensitivity
Eliminate need for expensive proprietary antenna Spectrum Analyzer can be re-purposed for other applications (signal analysis, demodulations, etc) One person operation Frequency Range 9 kHz to 43 GHz possible High Sensitivity Detect signal from further distances User Friendliness & Driver Safety Requires < 5 min setup, 1-person operation) Small unobtrusive antenna

Additional Equipment for Interference Hunt
Anritsu mobile interference hunting system allows the user to find interference positions quickly and easily For pin-pointing exact interference locations (such as on rooftops or inside office buildings), the MA2700A Handheld InterferenceHunter can be used MA2700A Pinpointing interference location with MA2700A Opt 25 Mapping
