Conditions that Interrupt… ROADBLOCKS TO DEVELOPMENT

Under Normal Conditions Teens develop into responsible adults. Developmental tasks can be interrupted by certain events, just as one can be physically stunted. All energies are focused on the interruption instead of the task. Recovery may take a long time, and normal developmental skills stay “stuck”.

Common Roadblocks to development Crisis Level Traumas such as 1. Death of a parent 2. Parents getting a divorce 3. Death of sibling or Friend 4. Severe illness such as polio, cancer AIDS etc.

Other Factors TEEN PREGNANCY DRUG AND/OR ALCOHOL DEPENDENCY COMPULSIVE OR OBSESSIVE BEHAVIORS Grades Sports Physical Appearance

After Trauma has passed… Development will resume where it left off. Then teen can return to normal activities Going back to school Seeing Friends socially Etc.
