The Midnight Ride By: Morgan Huninghake

Katie Smith was just moving from a great high school where she had lots of friends, and people who loved her. She would miss them, and she was heart broken.

All of the students ignored that she was even there, and she cried all through class, she missed her old school and friends.

That night was the worst, she couldn’t sleep, and she could feel the blood pounding in her head.

Guys had always thought she was pretty, but she was not aloud to date. When a guy kissed her hand and invited her to a party, she couldn’t let down the chance of making a new friend.

That night she lied to her parents. She told them she was going to eat dinner with a new friend, and minutes later was pulling up to the biggest party she’s ever seen…

When she went inside, no one glared at her like they did in school, they smiled and laughed with her. She was having a great time.

When the boy asked her to go for a ride with him, she explained she was already having fun. He grabbed her by her arm any way, and took her into his car.

He started to drive slowly, and they talked politely to each other. But then she remembered he had a few drinks, and asked to get out of the car. Instead he started going faster…

And faster…

She started to panic when the speed reached about 120, then she started to panic even more when she saw the two bright head lights coming right at her.

She closed her eyes as the car came closer, they were going to crash. She looked at the boy, and he was smiling. At least he was having fun.

!!Crash!!

She felt his pulse, dead. She felt hers, fast but alive. She wanted to be home with her parents that she regretted lying to. She would never lie again.

She woke in the hospital, the nurse was sitting beside her, and she asked her what happened.

She told her that the boy was dead and that she was dying quickly. She was right. Katie could feel herself coming to an end. She wouldn’t see another day.

Katie asked about the other car, they died too. She then asked one last request. She wanted the nurse to tell her parents she was sorry. Sorry for lying. The nurse refused. Confused, Katie died.

A doctor nearby began to cry, she accused the nurse of being inconsiderate for not fulfilling Katie's last request. The doctor wondered why.

The nurse replied…

“Her parents were in the other car.” …
