2. “THE RULE” Start with the infinitive and remove the “–en” (the “stem”) Example:  sagen  sag (-en)

3. WEAK VERBS: Take the stem and add “-te” endings “sag +” ich _____ -tewir ______ -ten du _____ -testihr ______ -tet er/sie/es _____ -te sie/SIE ______ -ten

4. Add an “e” before the endings if… The stem ends in “d”  Example: schad- Ich schadete mein Auto. The stem ends in “t”  Example: arbeit- Er arbeitete sehr viel.

5. STRONG VERBS: Change the stem and add endings: sehen = “sah +” ich _____ wir ______ -en du _____ stihr ______ -et er/sie/es _____ sie/SIE ______ -en

6. MIXED VERBS: Change the stem and add endings: nennen = “nann +” ich _____ -tewir ______ -ten du _____ -testihr ______ -tet er/sie/es _____ -te sie/SIE ______ -ten
