22 CONTENTS Air Power Perceived Needs Perceived User Constraints Industrial Vision In-Service Products Air Superiority Capability Air-to-Surface Attack Capabilities Special Operations / Battle Command / SAR Capabilities Trainers & Integrated Training Capability Light Combat Capability Future Outlook Conclusions

33 AIR POWER PERCEIVED NEEDS In the last decades the Air Power needs have involved several different roles, of which the primary ones are: Air Superiority Transport Air-to-Surface Attack Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition & Reconnaissance Roles are requested at: different performance and quality levels different intensity at threat levels different nature of operations

44 PERCEIVED USERS CONSTRAINTS On the other hand, Users have to live with budget constraints which have generally imposed the following approaches: aircraft fleets composed of few aircraft types, although “one size fits all” is not the answer. affordable solutions, either for Total Ownership Costs and costs vs operational value

55 INDUSTRIAL VISION Alenia Aermacchi approach to ensure adequate and affordable products to satisfy the Air Power needs, includes: continuously improvement of the existing products design aircraft variants for additional roles design new modular solutions with advanced and flexible multi-role capability explore new future concepts These activities imply complex tailoring of the solution to take into account: the expected performance levels the existing fleet the specific affordability levels Optimal results can be achieved working in strict collaboration with the Services

66 IN-SERVICE PRODUCTS AIR SUPERIORITY AIR-TO-SURFACE ATTACK AIR SURVEILLANCE AIR LIFT TRAINERS

77 AIR SUPERIORITY CAPABILITY AESA Radar BVRAAM Full New Gen SRAAMs AACMI Pods

88 A/S ATTACK / INTERDICTION / STRIKE CAPABILITIES SO Missiles Additional PGMs Conformal Tanks

99 SPECIAL OPS / BATTLE COMMAND / SAR CAPABILITIES MC-27-J Praetorian C2 & Fire Support Mission System Gun & PGMs EO/IR & Radar sensors Improved Communication suite Modular roll-on /roll-off mission kit

10 TRAINERS & INTEGRATED TRAINING CAPABILITY M345 – An additional training solution to reinforce an Alenia Aermacchi recognized leadership Ground Based Training System Enhanced Tactical Training Simulation Health & Usage Monitoring System

11 LIGHT COMBAT CAPABILITY M346 & 345 LCA Stores Management System External load carriage Defensive Aids

12 FUTURE OUTLOOK In the long term, new products are needed to satisfy the requirement of the Air Power capabilities. Medium/Long Term planning is essential due to the duration of the life cycle of those products. Considering the budget constraints a new product concept shall consider the capability to satisfy all identified needs as practicable. Concept trade-off of conventional and LO Combat/ISR MALE UAS for operations in contested/permissive scenarios that may pave the way for the more complex VLO UAS..

13 CONCLUSIONS From an industrial point of view the key points to achieve effective solution which satisfy the future Air Power expectations are: aircraft shall be designed with robust and modular configurations cost-effective solutions would benefit from continuous and tight collaboration between Armed Forces / Services and Industry
