Agenda 1.Introduction 2.Program Goals & Incentives 3.Project Work Flow 4.RELIGHT Analysis Tool 5.Designer Agreement

Efficiency Vermont RELIGHT Program A program that promotes the use of lighting design professionals to identify and pursue significantly increased savings on lighting retrofit projects Provides customers with expert advice on equipment, controls, layout, light levels Participating design professionals are either NCQLP Lighting Certified (LC) or Vermont-licensed Professional Engineers (PEs) www.efficiencyvermont.com/relight www.efficiencyvermont.com/relight

Efficiency Vermont RELIGHT Program Comprehensive lighting design can yield significantly more energy savings compared to a standard 1-for-1 retrofit On lighting projects where a design professional was involved (prior to RELIGHT), savings were on average 40% higher than typical

Efficiency Vermont RELIGHT Program 60% of RELIGHT projects are K-12 schools.

Efficiency Vermont RELIGHT Program

RELIGHT Example: Williston Central School Grade 3-8 school built in stages between 1950 and 1991 Typical mix of T8 and T12 lighting throughout Controls were seldom used or non-existent Classes and offices were illuminated to 50-75 fc “One-for-one” approach could have yielded 42% savi ngs Instead, the school worked with a local lighting designer through the RELIGHT program to design a lighting upgrade

Williston Central School – Recommendations 10% (125) of the existing light fixtures were eliminated due to poor placement and/or over lighting All remaining equipment was upgraded/replaced with a variety of High Performance T8 and T5 High Output Lamping was generally reduced to two lamps per fixture Light levels were designed to IESNA recommendations Remote- and fixture-mounted occupancy sensors were used extensively throughout; 75% of the fixtures were controlled

Williston Central School – Results Instead of saving the school 42% ($14,000 per year), the design achieved 62% savings ($21,000 per year)

RELIGHT Program Goals Increase energy savings on lighting retrofit projects through efficiency, design and controls Target a minimum 40% increase over standard “1-for-1” retrofits Encourage widespread use of lighting designers Maximize energy savings Improve lighting project satisfaction for customers Advance lighting knowledge among Vermont design professionals Use of IESNA best practices Efficiency Vermont incentives available for NCQLP Lighting Certification training and exam

Efficiency Vermont RELIGHT Program Upfront incentive to cover cost of audit and design: Back-end incentive—in addition to equipment incentives— to reward high-performing projects. Target is a calculated baseline that represents a typical 1-for-1 retrofit. 2012 incentive levels. Subject to change in future years. Building TypeAudit & Design Rebate Amount K-12 schools$500 + 3 cents per ft 2 All other commercial buildings$500 + 1.5 cents per ft 2 Performance Rebate AmountEnergy Savings Threshold $500 + 1 cent per kWhFirst 25% savings beyond RELIGHT target baseline + 2 cents per kWhSavings 25-50% beyond RELIGHT target baseline + 3 cents per kWhSavings 50-75% beyond RELIGHT target baseline + 4 cents per kWhSavings 75%+ beyond RELIGHT target baseline
