2 CREATE A FAMILY EMERGENCY PLAN Your family may not be together when disaster strikes PLAN FOR THE UNEXPECTED How will you contact one another?

3 Here’s What You Can Do  Meet with your family to discuss why to prepare for disaster  Explain dangers of fire, severe weather and earthquakes to children  Plan to share responsibilities  Work together as a team

4 Discuss Types of Disasters § Those most likely to happen in your area § Explain what to do in each case § Natural and man-made

5 Pick Two Places to Meet  Right outside your home as in a sudden emergency, like a fire  Outside your neighborhood when you can’t return home § Make sure everyone knows address and phone number

6 Designate Out-of- City/State Family Contact  After a disaster, often easier to call long distance  If separated, members should call this person and notify location  Everyone in family must know your contact’s phone number
