2
Introduction Sections of the pipeline required repair or modification. When changes are made, the line stopper fittings used to isolate the section are left welded to the pipe. Though sealed by the fitting, the enclosed pipeline is left with a large cut out section. Mueller Line Stopper Unit
3
Mission Statement Design a method for repairing the integrity of the pipeline to near its original condition. This method is to be cheaper, easier, and faster than replacing the line stopper fittings. Hole In Pipeline Due To Fitting Installation
4
Important Design Criteria Cost: Each unit must cost less than $300. Manufacturability: Materials: In house materials Standard tools and dimensions to simplify production. Feasibility: Accurate placement Alignment: must not rotate. Clearance: able to clear the minimum inner diameter of the access hole. Precision: able to accommodate for deviations in placement and alignment. Reliability: The device should have a minimal probability of failure, as it is to remain a permanent fixture in the pipeline. Simplicity: The device should require minimal training in order to produce, insert, and activate. Obstruction: Minimize bore reduction, maximum 25% bored reduction.
