24 © 2011 U.S. Soccer24 CONFIDENTIAL– Not to be shared without U.S. Soccer approval The attacking throw-in The attacking throw-in now can impact a game as much as the free kick specialists, who have their “sweet spot” in the danger zone where they’re most effective from. For an attacking throw-in to be effective, the thrower must be within his/her zone. Watch these examples.

Failure to do so is “Failure to Respect the Distance” and is a mandatory Cautionable offence. But use preventive officiating and Common Sense! Besides, watch what can happen if a player fails to respect the required distance.

No, it must touch another player before a legal goal can be scored Are opponents allowed to interfere? No, interference by opponents is a caution Can a player be declared offside? Not if the player receives the ball directly from the throw-in.
