Exodus 25:31-40 31 “You shall also make a lampstand of pure gold; the lampstand shall be of hammered work. Its shaft, its branches, its bowls, its ornamental knobs, and flowers shall be of one piece. 32 And six branches shall come out of its sides: three branches of the lampstand out of one side, and three branches of the lampstand out of the other side. 33 Three bowls shall be made like almond blossoms on one branch, with an ornamental knob and a flower, and three bowls made like almond blossoms on the other branch, with an ornamental knob and a flower— and so for the six branches that come out of the lampstand. 34 On the lampstand itself four bowls shall be made like almond blossoms, each with its ornamental knob and flower. 6Tabernacle #7 Lampstand

35 And there shall be a knob under the first two branches of the same, a knob under the second two branches of the same, and a knob under the third two branches of the same, according to the six branches that extend from the lampstand. 36 Their knobs and their branches shall be of one piece; all of it shall be one hammered piece of pure gold. 37 You shall make seven lamps for it, and they shall arrange its lamps so that they give light in front of it. 38 And its wick-trimmers and their trays shall be of pure gold. 39 It shall be made of a talent of pure gold, with all these utensils. 40 And see to it that you make them according to the pattern which was shown you on the mountain. 7Tabernacle #7 Lampstand

Introduction ( Heb) "M’nourah" = "light bearer". Lamp stand or Candlestick (KJV). Holy Place - only the priests entered- fellowship. The Table, with its twelve loaves, pointed to Christ as the Substance of our fellowship, the One on whom we feed upon. The Lamp-stand with its seven lamps foreshadowed Christ as the power for our fellowship, as it supplies the light necessary for it. The altar of incense symbolized Christ as maintaining our fellowship, by His intercession providing our continued acceptance before the Father. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand10

Lampstand in Holy Place - Not for the world to see now. Jesus said, "Yet a little while is the Light with you.. while you have light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of light." The world rejected - tried extinguishing it. Presently hidden from the unbelieving eyes of the world. Christ risen, exalted is there in the Holy Place. In God’s presence, the Light now dwells. Only the saints have access to Him for fellowship. "built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God by Jesus Christ" (1 Pet. 2:5) Now it is night-time for the world. But His saints are privileged to walk in the light (1 John 1:7) Tabernacle #7 Lampstand11

The olive oil for the lamps to burn continually, is the symbol of the Spirit of God. There would be nothing in this world for God at the present time if the Holy Spirit was not here. Every bit of light that shines in the lives of the saints, both for the pleasure of God, and for testimony to the world, is the fruit of the Spirit's work in the hearts of the saints of God. 13 1.Its Material 2.Its Construction 3.Its Decoration 4.Its Position 5.Its significance 6.Its coverings 7.Its History. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand13

1. Its Material "And you shall make a Lampstand of pure gold: of beaten work shall the lampstand be made" (v. 31). Unlike the Table and the Ark - No wood was used. Pure gold - beaten work of a talent of gold – like Mercy seat. The hammers and divine wisdom brought it out. The base, shaft and branches, in consistent proportions. Contrast the golden calf of Aaron - molten mould (32:4) What is idolatrous and what comes from man’s mind comes with ease; but that which glorifies God and brings redemption to his people is obtained at a great cost. The beaten gold picture of the suffering Christ Now glorified and rewarded by the Father. The "pure gold" speaks of His deity In Christ we have the perfect God-man. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand14

It was His deity which sustained His humanity. If only a human - would not have endured such a wrath. It was His deity that enabled Him to suffer. "gold" is “glory” - Hebrews 9:5 Beaten gold foreshadows the glorification of Christ who was beaten with many stripes. A "talent" was about 35 Kgs. - @Rs108.5 Million. Lampstand of a good size (Jewish Tradition 5’x3 ½’). Higher than the Table or the Incense-altar. Priests were able to minister by its light in the holy place. The preciousness of the person of our Redeemer His sufficiency are foreshadowed in the lamp stand. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand15

2. Its construction One central stem, three branches coming from either side. Each branch adorned with knobs, flowers and bowls. The "knobs" seem to be the almond buds; The "bowls" were for holding the oil for the lights Upon the end of each branch was the bowl or lamp. All was of one piece, beaten out by workmen endowed with divine skill. The seven lamps while an intrinsic part of the Lampstand may also be considered as separate lamps. "When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the Lampstand." Numb 8:2 Tabernacle #7 Lampstand16

The sevenfold radiance of the Lampstand speaks of Christ as the "brightness of God’s glory" (Heb. 1:3). It tells of His perfections as the Light. Physics demonstration ‘VIBGYOR ’ The seven "lamps" also symbolize the Holy Spirit in His power and perfections— the "seven Spirits which are before His throne" (Rev. 1:4). The type here has a double application, showing its marvelous and minute accuracy. In His ministry toward the believers, the Spirit works as "the Spirit of Christ " (Rom. 8:9; 1 Peter 1:11). Tabernacle #7 Lampstand17

The stem supported the Lampstand shows The Spirit given to us comes from our Redeemer. "When the Comforter is come, whom I will send from the Father" (John 15:26). Peter said, "Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Spirit He hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear" (Acts 2:36). Christ is spoken of as "He that hath the seven Spirits of God.“ (Rev 3:1 - Sardis) Tabernacle #7 Lampstand18

3. Its Decoration And six branches shall come out of the sides of it; three branches of the Lamp-stand out of the one side, and three branches of the Lamp-stand out of the other side: Three bowls made like unto almonds, a knob and a flower in one branch; and three bowls made like almonds in the other branch, a knob and a flower; so in the six branches that come out of the Lamp-stand" (vv. 32, 33). Tabernacle #7 Lampstand19

Its Decoration Knops – knob = unopened bud Decorated with 3 stages of the Almond – the bud, the flower, the ripened fruit. "Behold, the rod of Aaron for the house of Levi was budded and brought forth buds, and blossomed blossoms and yielded almonds“ Num 17:8 Almond – emblem of resurrection glory. Almond, first of the trees to bud – manifesting new life. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand20

Each branch of Lampstand evidenced Resurrection. 1.Stone rolled away, Empty tomb, Linen clothes, Prince of life risen from his sleep of death – The Buds. 2. Angel sat on the stone, two angels sitting one at the head and other at the feet, vision of the angels seen by women – The flowers. 3. Personal manifestations of the Lord to Mary, women, Peter, 2 disciples, upper room, sea of Tiberius, Mountain at Galilee – Full almond fruit. Empty tomb – brought faith to John Testimony of angels – brought faith to the women Beholding the Lord – brought faith to Thomas. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand21

4. Its Position "And He put the lamp-stand in the tent of the congregation over against the table, on the side of the Tabernacle southward.“ (Heb) word for south = bright and radiant. South tells of warmth, light and blessing. Job 37:17; Ps 126:4; Luke 22:55; Act 27:13. Naphtali was satisfied with favor and full with blessing of the Lord, possess the south and the west. Dt 33:23 Southern most state of India – ‘God’s own country.’ Not promoting prosperity theology/Vasthu. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand22

5. Its Significance. "Aaron and his sons shall order it from evening to morning before the Lord (Ex. 27:21). Maintenance of light within the true Sanctuary when our Lord is absent from the earth – Is believer’s responsibility – No more nation of Israel’s. 7 branches supporting the lighted lamps – the sufficiency of the ministry of the Holy Spirit as Christ’s gift to His people. It is the Spirit that gives the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ (2 Cor 4:6) Tabernacle #7 Lampstand23

Several aspects of Spirit’s ministry : 1. Revealed the beautiful workmanship of the Lampstand itself. “He shall glorify Me” Jn 16:14 Only by the Spirit we are enabled to enjoy the excellencies of Him – In his light alone we see light. 2. Lampstand placed opposite the table – cast light on its contents. Showbread after 7 days eaten in the holy place. Only by the Spirit we are enabled to feed on Christ and be nourished & strengthened. 3. Apart from the Lampstand’s light priests can’t minister at the Altar of incense – worship/supplication. 4. Lampstand shining “before the Lord” (Ex 40:25) – Seven Spirits of God, burning before the throne – government. 5. Isaiah 11:1,2. Three pairs growing out of a central stem. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand24

6. Its Covering "And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the Lampstand of the light, and his lamps, and his tongs, etc., and they shall put it and all the vessels thereof within a covering of badgers’ skins" (Num. 4:9, 10). The cloth of blue – divine glory of Christ – only his saints, the priests recognizes and enjoys. Badger’s skin – Ungodly and the world are without any knowledge of the true light. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand25

7. Its history After the Pentateuch, two mentions of Lampstand. 1 Sam 3:3 ‘Before the lamp of God went out’, a solemn communication of Judgment on sons of Eli. Before the long night of Israel’s unbelief is ended, God will judge them in the great tribulation for their sins. Dan5. Belshazzar brought the golden vessels for his drunken party. Man’s hand wrote over against the lampstand upon the wall … Pointing prophetically forward to the end of the times of gentiles, God’s wrath will be poured upon this Christ rejecting world. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand26

The triumphal arch of Titus in the Roman Forum 2 nd Cent - with its legend, "Judea Capta" portrays the menorah and other items looted from the temple clearly visible. Tabernacle #7 Lampstand27

Lessons for Life God is light and in Him is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). God is ineffably holy and therefore must punish sin. Light exposes and burns also warms and illumines! For believers the Light is the Light of life. How thankful and faithful are you as a light bearer? Jesus said: you are the light of the world! Let your light so shine before men… glorify the Father. Will you faithfully witness for the Light? Tabernacle #7 Lampstand28
