Def: Any behavior that is designed to control another person through the use of fear, shame, verbal or physical assaults. It can cause extensive self esteem issues and deep emotional repercussions for the partners of abusers
3
Emotional abuse slowly wears down away the victims; –Self-confidence –Sense of worth –Personality –Freedom –ETC….
4
Mental and verbal abuse relates a lot to emotional abuse. Like emotional abuse it gradually tears down a woman’s self esteem until there is little left of the person she used to be. Verbal abuse occurs when one of the other partner continues to criticize the other partner. It involves swearing, name calling, yelling, or mockery
5
involves hitting, slapping, pushing, kicking, pulling of hair or choking or harming them in any way Most women who have been beaten and mistreated are connected to be more prone to attempt suicide.
6
The cycle of violence can occur many times in a relationship. It can happen within a matter of hours, over a period of several weeks or even months.
7
Abuse is a pattern of actions and behavior that one person uses to strive to control and take over another individual. Men who are aggressive and obnoxious consistently have attitudes towards a friend or women in general. Violence and abuse is habitually used as an approach to try and control a woman's behavior and actions so that she only do the things that he wants her to do.
8
A woman of abuse can become so convinced that she’s worthless that she believes that no one else will possibly want her. She stays because she believes that she has no where to go and have been beaten down so badly that she blames her self for the mistreatment. More problems can be caused for the woman if her abuser is in control of all of the economic and social status of their relationship. Leaving could mean she will live in fear for her life, the loss of custody of her children or loss of financial support. She may even be afraid of harassment at work.
9
Many women believe : –that a single parent family is unacceptable and that a violent father is better than no father –that they are responsible for making their marriage work –that a failed marriage means that they have failed as a woman. –that their identity and worth is dependant on her getting and keeping a man in her life.
10
Being isolated by a jealous or possessive abuser may cause a woman to lose touch with family and friends. She may have even isolated herself to hide the signs of being abused from the outside world. A woman may rationalize the violent behavior by blaming: –alcohol or drug abuse –problems at work –stress –unemployment or anything else that comes to mind.
