1 Offense- also known as attack, is the action of attacking or engaging an opposing team with the objective of scoring points or goals. Defense- attempting to stop the opposing team from scoring points

2 Offensive strategies are any strategies and tactics used to try to score or prevent the defense from getting the ball. Examples. Pass, Run a play, shoot, turn away from the defender, have a certain line up. Etc. Defense strategies and tactics are used to try to prevent the opposing team from scoring and getting the ball from them. Examples. Standing between opponent and goal, rebounding, running a defensive play, blocking a spike

3 Skills Learned -Volleyball- Bumping- Knees bent, Wide base, Cuff hands, Eyes on ball, Hit with forearm, use to pass to teammate for set Setting- Make diamond with hands, hit with finger tips above head, knees bent, feet shoulder width apart, used to pass to teammate for spike Spiking- start at 10 ft. line. Take 3 steps, bend knees and jump up not out, make contact with palm in air, flick wrist after hitting, used to score a point Serving- Underhand, step forward with opposite hitting hand, drop ball with opposite hitting hand, hit ball with the entire palm of hitting hand. DO NOT TOSS BALL IN AIR TO HIT UNDERHAND. Used for beginners. Overhand- Toss ball in air with opposite hitting hand, make contact with palm of hand -Football- Throwing- start with weight on back foot, step toward receiver with shoulder pointed toward receiver, open up body toward receiver when throwing, fingers should be placed at the top of the laces and thumb toward back of football. Catching- Catch with two hands. Bring ball into body when catching Passing routes- Slant, Post, Down and out, Hail Mary, Button Hook

4 Transfer of skills Within sport skills, the motion of skills can transfer from one type of sport to another. Examples- Flicking the wrist in a spike in volleyball and flicking the wrist after a shoot in basketball Overhand serve in volleyball and overhand serve in tennis Dribbling with fingertips and Setting the volleyball with finger tips Goalie Punting ball in soccer and punter kicking the ball in football

5 Individual and Dual Sports- Sports that only require one or two players to participate in the sport. Alternative/extreme sports- Sports that have a higher risk of danger and can usually be participated by yourself but sometimes in a team. Examples- Skateboarding, Snow boarding, Skiing, Canoeing, Rock Climbing, Bungee Jumping, etc.. Performing in alternative and extreme sports are good ways to release stress.

6 Safety Equipment Traditional Sports Volleyball- Knee pads, Pads on the volleyball pole, athletic shoes Football- Mouth Piece, Helmet, shoulder pads, thigh pads, cleats Basketball- Mouth piece, basketball shoes Soccer- Shin guards, Extreme Sports Skate boarding- what are some safety equipment

7 Stats in Sports When dealing with numbers between 0 and 1, The closer the number is to 1 than the better the chance is of this happening. This number can also be converted to a percentage Example- Some one that is shooting.091 at the free throw line has a better chance of making a free-throw shot then someone who is shooting.081. Someone who is batting.341 has a better chance of hitting the ball than someone who is hitting.319 because.341 is closer to 1 than.319. To convert to a percentage, move the decimal two spots to the right.
