Stand with one arm stretched out toward the “sun”, with
the moon straight in front of you, but raised up slightly.
Record what you see on the moon chart in your notes.
Turning counter-clockwise, stop at each of the following positions…90o, 180o, 270o… and DRAW what you see.

First Quarter & Third Quarter moons are what
we SEE as “HALF MOONS”!
We call them quarter moons because the moon is
ONE QUARTER (1/4) or THREE QUARTERS (3/4) of the way through its 28-day cycle!

Instead, it changes gradually (just a little bit each night).

8. Important MOON FACTS:
The moon does NOT make its own light. It reflects light from the sun.
The moon is the ONLY place we have ever sent a HUMAN to….because it is the closest object to us in our solar system!
The gravity of our moon is strong enough to tug the water of our planet outward causing water levels to rise & fall each day!

9. Tides -the rise and fall of water every 12.5 hours
Water on Earth rises for about 6 hours (HIGH TIDE), & falls for about 6 hours (LOW TIDE) in a continuous cycle
This happens twice each day!
2 high tides & 2 low tides each day.
The GRAVITY of the moon (and sun) PULLS on Earth’s water, creating high tides.
