LEC. Biology Ecosystems Benchmark 2 Explain how energy flows through familiar ecosystems.
4
Plant POWER Comes from the sun
5
THE FOOD FACTORY Leaves are the energy factories of the plant. Leaves use sunlight, carbon dioxide from air, and water from rainfall or soil to make food energy.
6
SUNLIGHT ENERGY Energy from the sun helps plants make food energy. Living things need food energy to grow and reproduce. Plants make their own food. The cow and the person need to get their food. Click your mouse or press the space bar.
7
SUNLIGHT ENERGY The plant’s food energy is transferred to the cow when the cow eats the grass. The cow uses this plant food energy to grow and reproduce. Click your mouse or press the space bar.
8
SUNLIGHT ENERGY The cow’s food energy is transferred to the person when the man eats a hamburger or a steak. The person uses this cow food energy to grow and reproduce. Click your mouse or press the space bar.
9
All living things depend on the sun for energy. Plants are able to... From Carbon dioxide in the air and water in the soil using the sun’s energy.

Which of the following would be considered a correct food chain? a) Food Chain Sunlight RabbitFood Chain Sunlight Rabbit b)Sunlight Plant Cow HumanSunlight Plant Cow Human c)Sunlight Cow Human PlantSunlight Cow Human Plant d)Human Plant Sunlight CowHuman Plant Sunlight Cow e)Vertebrate Invertebrate Cow HumanVertebrate Invertebrate Cow Human Click Here for the Question Menu Page
19
All answers: A food chain usually starts with energy from the sun being incorporated into plants as food through the process of photosynthesis. The plant is then eaten by a herbivore (plant eater) then it’s eaten by a more complex animal. Return to the question
