3. A subordinating conjunction is a word which joins together a dependent clause and an independent clause. A dependent clause- It was raining and hence I took my umbrella. 4. FUNCTION 1: It gives a change between the two ideas in the sentence. This change will indicate a time, place, or cause and effect relationship. here are some examples: We looked on top of the refrigerator, where jenny will often hide a bag of chocolate chip cookies.
