6 Which Materials Were The Most Successful? The Welcome Pack has been useful for our staff as it is full of good ideas and suggestions Storytelling packs - we need lots more of them. We can employ them far more easily than anything else from RaW, because we have a ready-made, relevant audience of parents and children at storytimes The storytelling packs were very eye-catching, however the fact that users had to request one did seem to be a barrier, and the indepth, sometimes condescending, questions did annoy people The Quick Reads meet a direct need for less demanding recreational reading. They are allowing us to access groups and individuals who would not traditionally see themselves as library users The Phase 1 Magazine was extremely popular, and achieved widespread recognition for the RaW brand, because it used celebrities and popular images - it looked fun rather than worthy. The subsequent magazines were less successful because supplies were limited, the format was less eye-catching

The RaW logo has been invaluable as we have produced our own publicity and this has enabled us to brand our displays and materials The learner manual for tutors was well- produced but suffered from lack of awareness of library capacity and how they operate The quizzes have been good, but not always for people with literacy problems, sometimes a bit hard for them The story-telling techniques have been particularly useful when working with traveller families since it has tapped into their oral traditions The quizzes - because they were flexible, and could be used in different contexts, both formal and relaxed Downloadable posters – we’ve used them to promote RaW events in city locations

15 Enquiries 3083 RaW enquiries were recorded across 61 library authorities (many library authorities could not answer this question). This is an average of 51 enquiries per library authority, despite 12 library authorities recording no RaW enquiries at all. Sources of Enquiries

16 How has RaW has impacted on visitor numbers of libraries in your authority? 30% of library authorities saw an increase in visitor numbers ? 22% of library authorities couldn’t estimate RaW’s impact on visitor numbers - 39% of library authorities said that RaW made no impact upon visitor numbers

17 Summary 94% of libraries participated in the RaW campaign, most at a minimal level The most successful materials were the quick reads collections and magazines The most successful resources were the logo and the quizzes c60% of libraries had book displays and directed readers towards the website 55% of libraries authorities sent staff on stories training, but so far, less than half of those trained have run stories workshops The most popular RaW activities were parent and child sessions, which were run in 62% of library authorities and attracted 17,500 participants 30% of library authorities saw an increase in visitor numbers as a result of RaW
