1 Become a Word Warrior! Set 1

2  Here’s your first opportunity to start working towards becoming a Word Warrior and winning awards and prizes at the end of camp!  Each week we’ll introduce a few warrior words and you’ll practice using them all week. On Friday you’ll do a final activity to show that you know the words from the week.  There will be fun rewards for campers who increase their vocabularies and show that they know the words.  If you know 15-17 words then you’ll be a Jargon General!  If you know 18-20 words then you’ll be a Term Trooper!  If you know 21-25 words then you’ll be a Word Warrior!

3 WWhat’s It Mean?: if you abhor something you hate it or dislike it intensely. HHere’s an Example: I abhor doing chores especially washing the dishes!  Shout Out : What are some things you hate or abhor ?

4  What’s It Mean?: A callous person or action is cruel and shows no concern for other people.  Here’s an Example: The mean girls showed how callous they were when they teased and made fun of Judy even when she was crying.  Can you think of a time when Someone was callous to you?

5  What’s It Mean?: You would say there is a myriad of items if there is a large number of something.  Here’s an Example:  One clear night, there was a myriad of stars in the sky. Name some items you wish you had a myriad of.

6  Here’s an Example: The child was lured to the store by the promise of seeing the new toys.  Think About It: What are some places you might be lured into going to?  What’s It Mean?: When a person is lured they are persuaded to go somewhere or do something by being offered something tempting.

7  Here’s an Example: When my kitty broke her arm it was protruding in the air.  What’s It Mean?: If something protrudes from something, it sticks or juts out. What are some examples of some things That you may see PROTRUDING?

8 What type of things Vex or annoy you?  What’s It Mean? If something vexes you it annoys or confuses you.  Here’s an Example: I was vexed by that math problem when I couldn’t figure out how to solve it.

9  What’s It Mean?: Flabbergasted is when you are amazed or astonished.  Here’s an Example : His mother was flabbergasted when he brought home a report card of straight A’s  Discuss what might have flabbergasted this girl?

10  What’s It Mean?: If you are impertinent you show a bold or rude lack of respect especially to authority.  The impertinent child was placed in time out when he yelled at his mother “No!”  Think about it—Have you ever Been impertinent?

11 What’s It Mean?: A bog is a wet muddy area of land. Here’s an Example : The boy got stuck in the bog when he tried to catch the frogs that lived there. Can you think of some other namenames for a bog?

12  Now that you’ve seen the words for this week, make sure you work hard every day to learn what they mean!  During the word warrior time of your day, you will have opportunities to learn and practice the warrior words so you can be a master word warrior.  At the end of the week you will have a final activity to show what you know!
