Define… Cloning- when scientists make an exact replica of something by inserting its DNA into an embryo and then putting it into an animals womb to develop. E.g. dolly the sheep Genetic Modification- changing an animals genetics to fit a purpose. E.g. scientists can change a species DNA so that its kidneys can be used in human transplants Vivisection- experiments carried out on animals Stewardship- looking after something the best you can Dominion- where humans rule over the world Sentient being- able to feel pleasure and pain (being conscious) Extinction- when a known species cannot be found. Once a species is extinct its gone. Roughly 15000 species are extinct. Sanctity of life- life is scared as it is God given Responsibility- duty; we are in charge of our actions Extinction- when all the members of a species have died out and will never exist again Cloning- when scientists make an exact replica of something by inserting its DNA into an embryo and then putting it into an animals womb to develop. Fur Trade Good for economy Renewable and natural No endangered species are used- animals taken to reduce their numbers Worth £500 mill to UK economy Over 55 mill animals are killed each year Made illegal in 2000 in England and Wales Animals raised on battery farms and then killed by electrocution while still conscious 2.7 mill tonnes of poo/wee= pollution Incineration (airborne toxins) Burial (toxic breakdown products) Rendering (high energy consumption/ effluent production) Good for economy Renewable and natural No endangered species are used- animals taken to reduce their numbers Worth £500 mill to UK economy Over 55 mill animals are killed each year Made illegal in 2000 in England and Wales Animals raised on battery farms and then killed by electrocution while still conscious 2.7 mill tonnes of poo/wee= pollution Incineration (airborne toxins) Burial (toxic breakdown products) Rendering (high energy consumption/ effluent production)

farms Free range Method of raising animals so that they can roam freely Can go outside A free range dairy cow will stay with her calf, developing a strong bond while it feeds for 6- 8 months Natural More expensive Factory farming Method of raising animals intensively Use antibiotics and pesticides to prevent disease because of the crowded conditions Kept indoors May be given growth hormones More efficient so costs less to consumer Chemicals may build up in food chain and impact human health Free range Method of raising animals so that they can roam freely Can go outside A free range dairy cow will stay with her calf, developing a strong bond while it feeds for 6- 8 months Natural More expensive Factory farming Method of raising animals intensively Use antibiotics and pesticides to prevent disease because of the crowded conditions Kept indoors May be given growth hormones More efficient so costs less to consumer Chemicals may build up in food chain and impact human health

Slaughter of animals In Britain, animals are stunned then slaughtered. The aim is to let the animal bleed out so the meat is good Islam and Judaism (halal and shechitah) involves cutting the animal’s neck with a sharp knife In transport some die due to the cramped conditions The RSPCA campaign for animals to be slaughtered as close to where they were raised In Britain, animals are stunned then slaughtered.
