This can be a place that parents can get I Information about what the student is learning in English/Language Arts. It is necessary that students keep their notebooks up to date and that the notebooks are brought to class EVERY DAY! Welcome to 7 th grade Honors Language Arts. I am so excited about this year. My philosophy on education is that when the teacher can facilitate a combination of fun and academic rigor, true learning occurs. We are going to learn our hearts out this year! We will be covering many exciting topics this year which will include: Nonfiction, Poetry, Fiction, Drama, Informational Texts, Making Connections, and Research. 7 th graders will take both Reading and Writing STAAR tests this year. 2. Attendance If a student absent from class, it is the student’s responsibility to get and make up any missed work. Students will check the Absence Binder in my classroom for any work missed. If a student is turning in an assignment late due to absence, the student must label the assignment ABSENT or receive late credit. Late Work It is imperative that students complete and turn in work timely. The highest grade a student can receive for an assignment turned in late will be a 70%. Independent Reading Students will be required to read independently every day this year! Students will be required to read a minimum of 36 books during the course of the school year (about a book – 200 pages – a week). Research shows that this alone is proven to raise test scores. Students will be required to track the books that they read on a hard copy Reading Tracker. Students will also be required to complete a book project once every six weeks. There will be a variety of choices provided to the students for this project. Projects will be completed independently. Students will choose one book that they read during the the current six weeks on which to complete the project. Note to Parents We, the parent/s and teacher, are most powerful when we work together.
