2  Started as apprentices, then journeymen to become skilled craftsmen  Got wood from nearby trees  Used a drawknife to pull towards and shave off any small portions of wood  Used the lathe to carve into desired shapes  Used a hammer to put it all together

3  Used sand or steel wool to shave portion of wood to make saw dust that made the cabinets smoother  Used a plane to put a very specific angle and to make the wood smooth  Used a glue that became very hard to put all the pieces together  Put a finish on fancy pieces

5  Fine furniture  Boxes  Cabinets  Closets  Chairs  Tables  Drawers

6  Furniture was produced all over Virginia Colony.  They mostly used oak.  They also used maple, ash, walnut, and mahogany.  The simple chair might have required 30 to 35 hours.
