2. 2 Flood Map Modernization  Flood Map Modernization is a 5-yr $1 billion Presidential Initiative utilizing funding through FY08  Digital Flood Hazard Data and Maps for 92% of the Nation’s population  Enhanced Flood Map Quality – primarily the flood hazard boundary  Effective Program Management and Performance Measurement  Effective Partnerships with State, Local, Tribal, and National organizations as well as Other Federal Agencies  In FY10, FEMA is continuing flood mapping efforts that will extend through FY11

3. 3 The Vision for Risk MAP (Mapping, Assessment, Planning) Through collaboration with State, Local, and Tribal entities, Risk MAP will deliver quality data that increases public awareness and leads to action that reduces risk to life and property

4. 4 The Paradigm Shift: Map Mod to Risk MAP  Map Modernization used increasingly- available technology to increase the quality, reliability, and availability of flood hazard maps and data  It focused on digitizing maps to provide timely, accurate information to community planners Risk MAP further enhances the maps, involves communities during the assessment and planning stages, and guides and encourages them to communicate risk to their constituents

5. 5 Risk MAP Alignment The Risk MAP framework aligns activities across the risk analysis lifecycle. Solution strategies provide the foundation for motivating action to reduce risk. 8. 8 Report Highlights  The “FY10 Flood Mapping Progress Report and Production Plan” details FEMA’s progress in prioritizing and delivering modernized flood maps for areas of the United States with the greatest flood risk. The report also provides: An update on performance in the Flood Map Modernization Program. The strategy for prioritizing and initiating coastal, levee, riverine, and Cooperating Technical Partner (CTP) flood engineering and map data updates for Risk Mapping, Assessment, and Planning (Risk MAP). U.S. Maps depicting map production progress, planned updates, and an appendix that lists by State and county all scheduled and completed flood map production activities.  In FY10, Risk MAP flood map studies are beginning to reflect watershed- based project planning.

9. 9 FY10 Flood Map Production Funding  FEMA is utilizing the majority of $220 million in FY10 Congressional flood hazard mapping funding for direct flood map production and elevation data acquisition conducted at the regional level to support coastal, Provisionally Accredited Levee (PAL), and riverine engineering and mapping projects.  The remainder of FY10 flood mapping funding is utilized for Program management, operations such as maintaining Program services and infrastructure, and technical services supporting flood map production, such as maintaining the levee inventory.
