Zimmerman Note German Secretary of Foreign Affairs sent a telegram to Mexico promising that if Mexico waged war with the United States, they would get New Mexico and other pieces of land that it wanted from America, once the war ended and Germany won (Germany wanted this because it, kept US from interfering with the war in Europe) British intercepted telegram and sent it to the Americans.
