3 Who were the important artist of the Renaissance and what is their legacy? Filippo Brunelleschi discovered the mathematical system for representing three- dimensional images on a flat surface, linear perspective. The church of San Lorenzo Leonardo da Vinci The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. invented, sfumato - soft outlines and shadows to produce an effect of distance. studies of human anatomy Michelangelo painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel.
