OBJECTIF To be able to use the correct word for “some” in French. (To be able to correctly use the PARTITIVE ARTICLE)

In French there are FOUR different words for “some”. In order to work out which word to use you need to know whether the item of food you are talking about (the NOUN) is MASCULINE SINGULAR, FEMININE SINGULAR or PLURAL. To do this, look at the words for food on the vocabulary list. Each noun starts with the word for “the”. There are FOUR words for “the” in French too:

le=masculine singular noun la=feminine singular noun l’=masculine/feminine singular noun starting with a vowel or “h”. (Eg. l’eau) les=plural nouns (more than one- masculine or feminine)

In English we often miss out the word for some. In French you can never do this. You will need to use it after the following phrases: je mange-I eat je bois-I drink je prends-I have/I’ll have
